NIDO Canada Ottawa Chapter
Welcome to Our Ottawa Chapter!
Ottawa, Canada is a picturesque city with beautiful waterways, historic architecture, and an abundance of parklands and open spaces. Ottawa is Canada’s fourth largest city with over 877,300 residents. The size of the Ottawa region is 4,662 square kilometres (1,800 square miles), with over 90% of its area being in a country setting. While it is large enough to support the finest amenities, such as world-class entertainment venues and shopping districts, Ottawa retains the warmth and charm of a quaint European city and it is home to the Ottawa Chapter of NIDO Canada.

Upcoming Activities/Events
NIDO Canada World Conference 3 | Ottawa 2010
Nigeria @ 50: Building Partnership through Public and Private Partnership.
As some of you may know Ottawa Chapter has been elected to host the next NIDO Canada World Conference in 2010. This is a great honor that we all should take pride in as it will definitely highlight our chapter and afford us the opportunity to lead the organization.
This year’s Conference in Winnipeg was a great success and will be a challenge to beat but I have confidence with all Nigerian Professionals in Ottawa/Gatineau coming together to work together we can easily do better.
The theme for next year is “Nigeria @ 50 | Building Partnership through Public and Private Partnership” | Ottawa 2010. Our goal is to have the Prime Minister and the FGN President attend the Conference next year. How can you do this you will ask?
One of our new members has researched and come up with the fact that since Canada servered ties with Nigeria during the Abacha regime, there are still some sanctions that have not been lifted off the books that may be affecting all of us.
Here are some of the sanctions:
• visa restrictions on members of the Nigerian regime and their families
• withdrawal of military attachés
• cessation of military training
• embargo on the export of arms
• denial of educational facilities to members of the Nigerian regime and their families
• an immediate visa-based ban on all sporting contacts
•a downgrading of cultural links
•downgrading of diplomatic missions.
The way to reverse this is to sign new bilateral agreements covering these areas so that there is a new framework on which both governments can ground their relationship. In other to be able to accomplish this objectives we need the active participation of every able body as we only have 12 months to do this.
